We think of the work that we do as an opinion factory. While we are, in the lingo of Wall Street, technically considered technicians or technical analysts, the core of our work is as chartists. We keep scores and scores of daily charts in the manner described by John Magee in “Technical Analysis of Stock Trends” and we still use the semi-log chart paper he developed, and we still post the charts by pencil each evening. Daily charts are, of course, shorter-term in nature, so in addition we turn the pages of Mansfield’s weekly chart books to gain longer-term perspective.

This analytic work is expressed via the following products:

  1. The Mamis Letter – typically a 6 page commentary on what we’ve seen and felt in the charts themselves, as well as reporting on the technical and sentiment indicators. Accompanying the written commentary, there is almost always both “positive” and “negative” symbols lists of broad segments of the market, based on the Mansfield weekly charts and their longer-term looks. The Letter is published early every Monday morning.

  2. The Mamis Fax – titled “Justin’s Stream of Consciousness” because it is just that ... what Justin has felt/noticed about the day’s market after he has posted his pile of daily charts. Shorter-term commentary is followed by singling out particular positive and negative stocks. While everyone should read the Letter – for background and perspective, as well as ideas – this Fax is primarily suitable for more active traders. It is published on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

  3. Monday conference calls are available at ten AM and three PM (EST). There is an open question and answer period at the conclusion of each conference call. In addition, the morning conference call is available for playback during the week, if one’s schedule does not permit participating at the scheduled times.

  4. Many of our clients appreciate getting The Mamis Minute – which is a one minute voice mail with current stock ideas delivered every Wednesday night.

  5. Individual telephone conferences and in-person visits are available to interested clients throughout the year. Meetings with clients -- sitting around a table and discussing whatever is going on often results in developing useful nuances and increasingly in-depth observations. The more people who ask questions that particularly concern them, the better such meetings tend to be.

  6. A portfolio review is available on a client-by-client basis. Any client with a particular question is welcome to call (or email) for a simple buy-hold-sell answer or a thorough discussion.
